Outreach Report - September 2026

Hello all,

Summer flew by into fall, and it’s time for my final outreach report of 2026! I apologize for the delay, and I regret not being at the meeting in-person, but I should hopefully be getting a better handle on my time as we move into the fall and winter.

Note that the Schiele Museum outreach just occurred, so I do not have any data on this yet; this report reflects the status as of last Sunday. If anyone sees any other issues aside from this, as always please let me know ASAP and I will try to correct them.

Thank you all for your help with outreach this year, and I hope you all have a good rest of the year with the club and everything else!

-Tony

New Outreach:

9/26 & 9/27 - Schiele Museum of Natural History - Gastonia (Numerous volunteers)
The Schiele Museum is having the grand opening of their Elizabeth Williams Robinson Hall of Dinosaurs,
and they have asked for anyone in the NCFC that would like to display their collections to come out for
the weekend! The grand opening celebration is occurring on Saturday, September 26th from 9 AM to 5
PM, and on Sunday, September 27th from 1 PM to 5 PM. (Note: This event has completed, data will follow in January’s Report)
10/24 - Aurora Fossil Museum - Aurora
The museum is once again holding their National Fossil Day Celebration, and are looking for volunteers
that can assist with the event. The museum will have fresh material and several events will occur during
the celebration, including a fossil talk, a lunch fundraiser and live music.
10/31 - White Deer Park - Garner (Tony Shaver, Terry Denny)
The park is doing a “Trick-or-Treat the Trail” event for Halloween again this year, and are setting up some
tables for the NCFC to provide fossil displays and goodies for the trick-or-treaters. This event was well-
attended in 2024 (~1500 visitors), and with it being on a Saturday this year the attendance could be even
higher.
11/5 - White Deer Park - Garner (Terry Denny)
The park is doing a “Time Travel” component of their “Discovery Days” program, and has requested
assistance from the NCFC providing fossil displays and paleontological education material for this event.
They are having two sessions for this date, one from 10-12 and one from 4-6
11/7 - Catawba Science Center - Hickory, NC - NCFC Fossil Fair
Our annual Fossil Fair has a date and location! We will once again be holding the fall Fossil Fair, where
the NCFC will display fossils and hold the megalodon tooth raffle.
