The club will hold its May meeting on Sunday May 17, at 1:30 pm. It will be an in-person meeting at the NC Museum of Natural Sciences in Raleigh with a virtual option. The in-person meeting will be held in the Explore on Four meeting room (Nature Exploration Center) at the NC Museum of Natural Sciences in Downtown Raleigh starting at 1:30 pm. To reach the meeting room, enter the museum from the entrance across from the Museum of History, take the escalator to the fourth floor, turn left and the meeting room will be just past the dinosaur overlook. If you take the elevator to the 4th floor, you would turn right when you exit the elevator and continue to the end of the hall.
The in-person speaker will be Sean Moran. Sean is the Collections Manager of Paleontology at the N.C. Museum of Natural Sciences. He is a PhD candidate at the University of Florida, MS in Geological Sciences, University of Florida, BS in Geology, College of William and Mary. Sean previously spoke to the NCFC regarding his research in Nebraska, talking about changes in North American mammals during a major climate transition 34 million years ago at the Eocene-Oligocene boundary. He has performed fieldwork from the Cambrian to the Holocene across the United States, including in Nebraska, Montana, Wyoming, New Mexico, Florida, North Carolina, and New Jersey, as well as internationally in Panama and the Bahamas.
The title of his talk will be “Early Miocene land mammals and chronology of the Belgrade Formation, eastern North Carolina”
